Cocky want a cracker?!

Hi Scribblers 

Welcome to the first blog post in our new digs, byreywd.com - {pronounced by ray-wood}

For those that don’t know me, and I’m hopeful there will be a few, my name is Michael and I’m lucky to live in Melbourne, Australia. Together with my wife Gen and our children, we decided to embark on this creative journey only a couple of months ago.  

It all started on a crisp Saturday morning during lockdown when, after tending to the home made bread and the jigsaw puzzle (yes we were on these covid lockdown bandwagons ha ha) Gen and I were having a cuppa chatting about what on earth we could do to get the kids off their wretched iPads, and also what we could do to keep our spirits up. Gen and I both love making things - Gen can whip up a fancy knitted jumper in no time even if it needs to be unpicked several times. She is an absolute champion at all things arty and crafty. Me, well my background is in sheet metal so I love making things using metal, however I will have a crack at just about anything. Now back to the story.

Gen is a bird lover. I wouldn’t say enough to be into pigeon fancying, but she does love birds. “Let’s make a bird feeder” she says. “YES!” I said. And so we did...

To our excitement it only took a few days for the birds to find it and once they did, this set the cogs turning in my ‘making’ brain. 

I have always wanted to create something that makes me happy and fills my purpose bucket so to speak. The old adage 'do what you love, love what you do' is paramount for me. I set to work thinking of how I could design, make and bring to market a predominantly metal (hey it's what I do) product that would spark joy. Something both beautiful and functional.

And Scribble was born.

I want to say a huge heart felt thanks to my work (you know who you are) for being so very supportive of me and this little venture. I'm humbled by the care and generosity you always show. To be surrounded daily by artisans who are giants in the Australian design and manufacturing industry, is truly inspiring. 

To Gen, thankyou for not letting me rush in and launch our little Scribble to the world before it was ready. 

To everyone else who has supported us, already purchased or might be looking at purchasing - thankyou! I will continue to push myself to bring fresh content and updates to Scribble and byreywd.com.

I have been looking for a hobby for years and I think I have now found it :)
